Hendrix Visit SK!

We had the sweet blessing of family traveling half way around the world to come see US! Jimmy and Gerri Hendrix (aka Grandpa Jim and Grandma Gerri) made the momentous trip over Thanksgiving! What a way to start off the holidays!

We did LOTs but mostly just enjoyed time spent together. They were so gracious to help us decorate...Martin James Jr., III, and IV ALL helped hang lights outside. We visited Krispy Kreme donut. Very Cool. To compete with the normal Korean pastries (which are all gussied up) the donuts were a little more, well, fancy and detailed than we are used to seeing them in the states. Almost too pretty to eat. Though we did manage. Jim and Gerri transversed the crazy subway system very well. Of course you can see Little Jimmy is an old hat at the subway. Just chilling out next to Mom (at least that's what this picture would have you believe). Craziest of all, Jim and Gerri not only ate but actually ENJOYED a traditional Korean "beef and leaf". The food is VERY different than ours and we were proud of them for being willing to try (not to mention, chairs ain't included!). It was goooooooood! Best we've had in Korea. They also enjoyed the sites of the Somoon Market here in Deagu. Nothing quite prepares you for the sites, smells (fishy - at best).....and the lack of personal space the locals need. While nice people, they have no problem stepping on your heals....REPEATEDLY, if they feel so inclined.

We were also grateful for the opportunity for our family to meet our friends here (who are like family to us). It means a lot to us when the all these people who are so important and special to us get to meet! And this year it was at THANKSGIVING!
Thank you Grandma and Grandpa for everything it took to make this visit happen! It ain't easy! We are beyond grateful!

Bisul Mountain, South Korea, October 2009

We headed off to Bisul Mountain with the Young and Ayer families and what a great time we had! Between the weather and the friends, it just couldn't get any better! We stayed in a little cabin. At this point in out lives it's as close to camping/roughin' it as we'll get and it was perfect. Like and oversized treehouse. Jimmy was so excited he could hardly contain himself. Ben was peaceful and entertained by all. Both crashed hard that night (and the next night at home). Ben seemed to take a special liking to the heated floors. I've never been concerned an air mattress would explode...but it did cross my mind as it kept expanding as the floors warmed. We loved every minute of it and hope to return in a few weeks. It was so refreshing to be outdoors in an area so much like the Appalachian mountains of home. Uuuummmuuuuummmm.

Ben 6 Months Old!

Where does the time go? Our sweet little boy was 6 months old on Oct 10th! We thank God that we were blessed not once but TWICE with such sweetness! He is a great boy (and a great BIG boy). The only time he is grumpy is when it's time for a nap. He lllloooooves his big brother. Doesn't matter what Jimmy does, Ben thinks it's hysterical. And they love some wresteling. Daddy's already excited about that. Just wanna eat him up. Love em!

And then, there was this monster....Bisul Mountain......

There was lots of great conversation to be had on our trip today. I think Jimmy was telling me about him and his dad swimming (see previous post). Another good one was in the car when I was navigating and Big Jimmy was telling me to look for the town of "Wangchung". I started singing the 80's song "Everybody wangchung tonight....". He thought I caught his joke since I was singing the song. Why would there not be a town named "Wangchung" in an Asian country? He thinks he's sooooo funny. All I got to say, is who got us lost and who got us to the mountain?

I love Jimmy's expressions in these pictures. This is how he is many conversations during the day. Exception - and hour or two after he wakes from his nap. Direct eye contact, not recommended. Talking, not a great idea. Don't breathe too loud either.

Bisul Mountain, South Korea

What a sweet, sweet day. Hints of fall are in the air. Clear. Crisp. Seventy degrees. Today is Chusok (chew-sock). The Korean version of Thanksgiving....with out the pilgrams. Not a lot of people at the mountain (though enough were on the roads). It was just the perfect day to enjoy nature with my boys. Ummmm-uuuuummmmm. Jimmy didn't want the day to end and we didn't either. Thank you God for this day. Too perfect.

The water's deep!

We went to Bisul Mountain today. What a blast. It was a perfect early fall day. In these pics Jimmy enjoyed a swim with his dad. It's this beautiful trail in the mountains....then a random swimming pool along the river side. Interesting. Fun. More pics to follow.
